Gotukola Sambol (Salad) (ගොටුකොල sambal)
Gotukola (also spelled Gotu kola) is a small, leafy green herb commonly used in traditional medicine, particularly in Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and Sri Lankan herbal traditions. Its scientific name is Centella asiatica.

🥗 1. Gotukola Sambol – Traditional Sri Lankan Recipe
A refreshing raw herb salad that's packed with nutrients and flavor.
✳️ Ingredients:

1 cup Gotukola leaves, finely chopped (stems removed, washed thoroughly)

¼ cup freshly grated coconut

1 small red onion, finely chopped
-
1 small green chili, chopped (adjust to taste)

Juice of ½ a lime (or to taste)

Salt to taste
Optional Add-ins:
1 tbsp Maldive fish flakes (for umami, optional)
1 small chopped tomato
A dash of black pepper
🍽️ Instructions:

Rinse gotukola leaves thoroughly in clean water and drain well.

Finely chop the leaves (you can bunch them and slice thin).

In a mixing bowl, add chopped gotukola, coconut, onion, green chili, and optional ingredients.

Squeeze in fresh lime juice and sprinkle with salt.

Mix well using your hands or a spoon — the coconut and lime juice should coat everything.

Taste and adjust seasoning.
Serve with:
Rice, dhal curry, or coconut sambol. Can also be used as a topping for toast or wrapped in roti.
