Marbled Sponge Cake (Simple Baking)
Ingredients:
- 3 eggs yolks
- 3 egg whites
- Red Food colouring
- 50g plain flour
- 25ml vegetable oil
- 25ml milk
- 100g caster sugar
Method:
- Preheat the oven to 170 degrees. In a standard mixing bowl add the egg whites, half of the sugar, this is optional but you add some vinegar or cream of tartar to hold the shape of the egg mixture, beat this for 3mins until there's a soft peak, and it should hold when you lift it up.
- Add the egg yolks into the mixing bowl, add the sugar, oil and mix for about 1min. Then add then flour, mix this on a medium speed while gradually adding the milk. The slowly fold the egg whites into the batter, DO NOT MIX. Then place half of the batter into a separate bowl, colour it with you choice of food colouring, and leave one bowl with the plain batter.
- Grab a Cake tray, or marble cake pan, and place dollops of each batter in the pan in different order until the top, then with a spoon slowly mix the batter in the pan until you get a marble effect, don't over mix it, because you will just end up with one colour. Then bake this for 45mins.
- To take the cake out, run a small knife along the edge of the tray, let the cake cool down in the pan, then you can take the cake out of the pan.
